1936 500cc H.P.6

This 1936 500cc H.P.6 is owned by Peter in Eastern Australia. The engine number is B 45736, and the frame number is A 3425 Previous history is that that it was once owned by a Bill Knight from Hamilton, Victoria. The Stevens Brothers had built up a network of dealers in Australia in their days as A.J.S, no doubt helped by the extended family that had emigrated there. When they went back into motorcycle production as the Stevens Brothers, I would imagine that these dealers would have been only too happy to sell machines with such a pedigree. It is believed that all the bikes that were exported there were 500`s which were probably more suited to the distances involved and the suitability for use as combinations. All the 500`s being fitted with lugs for sidecar attachment.

Peter acquired this bike some time ago and reckons that it had been restored at some time in the 1960`s. Recently he found a book titled `Vintage Motorcycles in Australia`, published in 1975 and written by a VMCC member called David B Dumble. He bought it because of a reference to a Stevens bike. The next day when taking a closer look, the name on the caption started to ring bells and on closer inspection he realised that the bike pictured is his very own, photographed on a VMCC run in Victoria back in the early 1970`s.
