1935 500cc H.P.6
This is Peter`s other bike that he purchased recently. It is a 1935 500cc H.P.6 model with engine number HP35035 and frame number B 35035. It is obviously short of a few bits, but it is hoped that patterns for whatever is required can be sourced from the other bikes which are in Australia. More of which can be found on other pages.
This bike was the other machine from Jowett`s of Launceston, Tasmania, purchased from them on their closure by Bill Keenan.
The 500cc models L.P.5 and H.P.6 were introduced in 1935 and The Motor Cycle magazine of April 11th that year announced it`s imminent arrival. The 350cc engines were just 250`s with larger bores, and the 500cc shared a frame with the 350cc. There were various other improvements and changes such as the twin drive chain cover, the single port engine of 495cc was fitted with overhead valve gear and double hairpin springs. It was designed for quiet but efficient road performance and claimed a top speed of 83 m.p.h.

If any of you out there are thinking of buying a lottery ticket, have a word with Peter first. The bottom half of this engine is from a `36 AJS, but he asked around and from nowhere someone has found a proper one. |
