Michael has two Stevens machines, a 350cc and this 250cc D.S.1 which he purchased as a basket case for £600 back in around 1982. He built it up and used it for many years on VMCC rallies. For the past 10 years it has been in dry storage. There are early features to be noted here. The oil tank between the frame tubes in front of the engine, the early model gear box, the mudguards without the apron and valances. I believe these early models came with a leather tool box. The megaphone exhaust will no doubt be returned to it`s original owner (the L.L.4) in due course. This bike is in good and largely original oily rag condition, which will hopefully assist other owners with their restorations.

This bike was previously owned by Harry from Darlington who bought it from two brothers. They were farmers and collectors of old bikes at Shildon near Bishop Auckland. Apparently they had quite a collection and were well known in the vicinity. They needed to raise some money to buy a new tractor so reluctantly had to part with a few of their old bikes. The engine had been professionally overhauled by a local specialist just before he bought it.
