1937 500cc HP6
Bob is a friend of Peter in Australia, and owns this H.P.6. which is in fairly complete condition. It has obviously undergone some restoration at some point, as can be seen from the non standard paint job on the tank. The engine number on this machine is HP 56236. The gearbox is like other BAP gearboxes seen on 1938 machines with the exception of the top mounting lug. Instead of this top mount lug there is one to the front of the gearbox.

Bobs bike was once owned by a fairly successful speedway racer in Australia by the name of Bill Keenan. When the firm of Jowett Bros of Launceston, (a Stevens dealership in Tasmania), closed down he bought all the remaining `Stevens` stock from them. There were a couple of Stevens machines in the job lot that he bought, one is this one of Bobs, and the other is Peters.
One interesting feature of this machine is the dealers plaque attached to the removable rear mudguard tip. It reads `Supplied by Jowett Bros, 145 - 7 St. John St, Launceston`. The plaque shows the Stevens chevron badge which was also found as a transfer on the tool boxes. In addition there is information on the recommended Wakefield Castrol motor oils for use on the Stevens machines... for Touring - XXL or C, for Racing - R or GP, and for the Gear Box - MG

When Jowetts were closing down there was a bike sheeted up at the back of the shop that was already sold to a buyer in the UK. The bike was the infamous supercharged 1929/30 OHC V twin A.J.S. The buyer was the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.
